New NAS members

Today the National Academy of Sciences announced their newly elected members. You can read the announcement here.

Once again, I'm not on the list.

Once again, the gender balance isn't. Not even close.

[UPDATE]

Apparently the Royal Society didn't do any better with their new Fellows.

How close should it be? Not that I would ever defend an imbalance, but I see about 1/3 of the newly elected NAS members are women. It's not half, but it likely represents the proportion of women (or more so) in higher academic positions. Am I wrong on this? If so, please correct.
