If an instrument doesn't make a cool noise, or at least ping!, it's worthless.

Spoken like a white privileged BSD who doesn't have to have his office across from the autoclave room. You. You are the problem Odyssey. NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE.

Wait....I'd just take peace. I'll get back to you.

Corollary- if a big cool expensive machine you use (or just a very tempermental one that you invested years in learning) does NOT go ping, install a little "pinger" that you manually ping whenever the data are good.

    What if it smokes?

actually lots of blinking lights can make up for binging noises. If you do surgery, with machines that bing with the pulse of the animal, you learn to live without the boinks.

And if it makes an annoying noise it's usually.........smashed by the operator:-)
